Crazy how the past year has turned our lives 180 degrees.
A lot of people used to scorn people who work online… thinking that it’s nothing but a side gig and that work stability and financial security can never be replaced by traditional, corporate jobs.
Well… it looks like they have been proven wrong.
I have been working online in the past 12 years now and although it took me a while to get my bearings and find something I truly excelled at, I have never seen my business boom as much as it did in the middle of the pandemic.
There’s been a lot of interest in learning how to work online and earn money from home, and I’ve been finding myself helping these people, too. I always suggest people look into their own skillset once they start brainstorming for services to offer. This is because starting with something that you are already experienced in and are an expert at flattens the learning curve so you can start earning right away.
However, if you still couldn’t find anything to offer or are looking into adding more services to offer to your clients, below are some more ideas for you.
Quick note: Most people will tell you that some of the services below do not constitute the services of a VA because they’re too specialized. Here’s the thing… I think that anyone who provides any form of support or assistance to a business owner online, are called virtual assistants. Some just go off to become specialized service providers (and sometimes consultants) and thus give themselves a better title (and a higher rate to match) but there are also others who stay as a general virtual assistant and do multiple things for their clients.
1) Sales Funnel Expert
Sales is a huge thing these days; after all, it’s what makes or breaks any type of business, whether it operates online or offline. Without sales, a business will have no source of revenue or income and thus no way for them to pay their expenses and continue operations.
The beauty with operating a business online is that many, if not all, of the sales part can be done in automation. Yes! It’s possible for you to acquire customers and accept payments and fulfill orders even if you aren’t glued to your laptop 24/7.
These days, people who are experts at not just implementing sales funnels – including building the pages that are designed to convert, the checkout pages, and all the other automations involved – but can also help come up with strategies on how to make offers more appealing to their target market. This can encompass many things including knowing how to design pages, knowing how to integrate different platforms, knowing how to write compelling copy in sales pages and social media, and so on.

2) Tech Virtual Assistant
In many cases, sales funnels experts and funnel strategists don’t necessarily do the implementation themselves, which is where a tech virtual assistant comes in. Basically, they are the implementers of these strategies and help make all these plans come alive using all the tech platforms that are available to them.
Sometimes, online business owners also hire tech VAs to help with other sorts of tech assistance for their business and not just those involving sales funnels, including:
- setting up online courses
- setting up an online shop / store
- setting up other integrations to automate other processes of their business (eg. the workflow when a new inquiry comes in)
- setting up or maintaining websites and blogs
- getting a certain functionality / feature / design to work, especially when there’s code involved
- …and so much more!

3) Ecommerce VA
Another booming niche for VAs these days is providing assistance with running e-commerce stores.
E-commerce means electronic commerce which basically means that your store, selling physical goods, is being operated online. This would usually involve the following things:
- setting up Amazon or Shopify stores (or stores in other similar platforms)
- finding winning products
- sourcing good suppliers
- monitoring sales
- fulfilling orders
- providing customer support

4) Conversion Copywriting
Finding a triple-threat digital marketer can be tough because they’re, well… unicorns. (#HumbleBrag I just recently got my Master Marketer certification in Offer Creation + Strategy, Conversion Copywriting and Experience-First Design through this awesome program.)
That said, there’s a lot to learn about how to write well. And there are also many different ways and places in which your write. For example, conversion copywriter are usually tasked to write sales pages and landing pages, whose main objectives are to convert people – whether it’s to sign up for a freebie or to pay to get inside a program or product.
Throughout my journey as a freelancer, I’ve assumed many different roles and actually started out as a freelance writer. While writing sales pages is different from writing blogs, my experience with the latter actually helped me with the former but I know there’s still a lot to learn for me.

5) Facebook Ads Manager
One of the most common places that online businesses advertise on and get their customers from is Facebook.
As much as people hate making Mark Zuckerberg with all the advertising fees being paid to Facebook, the platform is a pretty effective tool in targeting people and getting paying customers, as long as it is set up correctly.
However, Facebook ads is a specialized skill and it involves money so you want to make sure that you know how to make full use of the platform well.

Which one is for you?
You’ll come to realize that the services that I listed here are actually interconnected with each other.
It’s possible that you decide to specialize in one skill and work your way around providing other services on your own… or build your team and become a full-service agency.
Which one is for you? It all depends on which skills you are most comfortable with. Personally, I would try out a few services at least once to see if it’s something that I enjoy doing. Remember… I went from doing writing work to providing tech VA services and building funnels.
Which one is the most profitable? Every one of them! Once you start getting the hang of it, you become an expert in the field. The better you become at your craft, the more people refer you to others and the more confident you become at selling yourself – that’s when you start charging more! 🙂
